November 2014 auto production & sales in positive terrain

Things may be finally looking good for the Indian auto
industry with production, domestic sales and exports recording positive growth
in the month of November 2014, according to the latest data released by the
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The industry produced a
total of 1,994,248 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles,
three wheelers and two wheelers in November 2014 as against 1,774,474 in
November 2013, registering a growth of 12.39 percent over the same month last
year.
The total domestic sales for the month stood at 1603292
units as compared to 1526514 units in November 2013, thereby registering a
growth of 5.03pc. Total exports for November 2014 were around 334410 units as
compared to 253378 units in the corresponding month last year, an increase of
31.98pc.
Among the sub segments in the passenger vehicle space, for
the month of November 2014 sales for passenger cars were 156445 units (142849
units)- 9.52pc increase. Utility vehicles sales decreased by 6.84pc at 41218 units
(44244 units). Sale of vans increased by 2.41pc at 14775 units (14428 units).
Similarly in the commercial vehicles space, domestic sales
of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCVs) passenger carriers
decreased by 9.07pc to 1665 units (1831) units in November 2014. Sales
M&HCV goods carriers increased by 49.43pc to 14483 units (9692 units). LCV
passenger carrier sales increased by 15.65pc to 2335 units (2019) while that of
LCV goods carriers decreased by 3.26pc to 29203 units (30188 units). Three-wheeler passenger carrier sales in
November 2014 increased by 0.86pc to 32688 units (32408 units) while that of
Three wheeler goods carriers increased by 12.27pc to 9049 units (8060 units).
The two wheeler space saw the Scooter/scooterette sales
increase by 26.49pc in November 2014 to 386547 (305586 units) while that of
motorcycles/ step through decreased by 3.05pc to 853254 units (880078 units).
November 2014 sales of mopes increased by 11.79pc to 61630 units (55131 units).
FOR THE EIGHT MONTHS
FROM APRIL TO NOVEMBER 2014
The sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 2.68 percent in
April-November 2014 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger
Vehicles segment, Passenger Cars and Utility Vehicles grew by 3.82 percent and
5.24 percent respectively, while Vans declined by (-) 13.70 percent in
April-November 2014 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a
de-growth of (-) 7.27 percent in April-November 2014 as compared to same period
last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) grew by 5.30
percent and Light Commercial Vehicles declined by (-) 12.90 percent.
Three Wheelers sales grew by 14.20 percent in April-November
2014 over the same period last year. Passenger Carriers and Goods Carriers grew
by 15.49 percent and 8.46 percent respectively in April-November 2014 over
April-November 2013.
Two Wheelers sales registered growth of 11.84 percent in
April-November 2014 over April-November 2013. Within the Two Wheelers segment,
Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 28.19 percent, 6.58 percent and 9.84
percent respectively in April-November 2014 over April-November 2013.
In April-November 2014, overall automobile exports grew by
21.31 percent over the same period last year. Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles,
Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers grew by 2.79 percent, 14.26 percent, 21.45
percent and 27.04 percent respectively during April-November 2014 over the same
period last year.
